August 17, 2011 Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students, I hope this letter finds you excited and eager about the fun and learning that will take place this year at Mulcahey Elementary School. We have been dutifully preparing for you arrival. This has been a very busy summer. There’s been lots cleaning, waxing, construction, etc. Mr. Santiago and his custodial staff have labored each day to create a pristine environment for our students and staff upon their return to school. Mrs. Hackett, Guidance Counselor, and Mrs. Furtado, Guidance Secretary, have been busy with registrations. Mrs. Cornaglia, Office Secretary, has been adjusting bus routes, and I have completed scheduling the building for the school year. Please be sure to take the time to carefully read through and review the parent-student handbook located on the district website (Hard copies available for review at the main office.) Please pay special attention to the sections on attendance, tardiness, and homework. Also review all emergency paperwork to insure accuracy and legibility. These items should be returned immediately. I would like to clarify procedures for pick-up/drop-off. Please understand that this procedure is for the safety of all children attending our school. Student schedules that are consistent throughout the school year and are within district borders will be honored for transportation purposes. However, pick-ups and drop-offs regarding before/after school that are not related to daycare will not be honored. At the start of the school year, families must make their schedule known to the homeroom teacher in writing. These correspondences will be forwarded to the main office. The safety of our students is our primary concern. Please carefully read the procedures outlined below: (1) Student drop-off is between 8:00 am and 8:15am at the main entrance. There is no supervision for students dropped off earlier with the exception of those children enrolled in the daycare program. (Daycare students enter through the front door in accordance to scheduled times for extended day services.) (2) Students should have one (1) pick-up location in the AM and one (1) drop-off in the PM. Changes may only occur if the student has written permission from the school principal or his/her designee and this will be granted ONLY in the case of emergency or extenuating circumstances. (3) A parent and/or guardian must be waiting and visible at the bus stop. If no parent and/or guardian is present the student will be returned to the school at the end of the route and a parent/guardian will be contacted. Multiple violations could result in the removal of bus priveleges. (4) No changes for pick-up may be made for a child after 1pm. Calls after this time will NOT be honored. Please plan appropriately. Absolute matters of emergency should be directed to the principal. (5) Parent pick-up requires an ID at all times. We ask that you please not be offended as we will continue to require this throughout the year. Please be sure all family members allowed for pick-up are recorded on your child’s emergency card and student information sheet. A phone call will not suffice. If you need to make changes to the emergency card during the school year, please come to the school and do so or request that a new card be sent home. (6) Parents that are picking up their child should enter through the gym door. You will be required to sign-out your child each and every time he/she is picked up from the school. Students will be escorted to the gym area at 2:30pm. Staff will be available to assist with the sign out procedures. (7) No child will be allowed to walk home on his/her own. Students are either assigned to a bus or a parent/guardian must pick the child up. We look forward to a wonderful year with you and your children. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact the school at 508-821-1255. Sincerely, Christel Torres, Principal Deborah Martelly, Assistant Principal Important Dates: · August 24th – Redistricted Student Orientation- Welcome to our new friends! 6pm-7pm · August 31st – Kindergarten Open House 6pm-7pm · August 31st, September 1st and 6th – Kindergarten screening appointments · September 7th – Kindergarten begins · Sept. 14th –Expectations Night (Grades 1-4) 6pm-7:30pm followed by PTO Meeting, 7:30pm-8:30pm · Sept. 28th – School Council 6pm-7:30pm
