Mr. DiRubio

Augustine "Gus" DiRubio, a teacher, coach, and athletic director, died Sunday, March 19 2006 at his home.

Born in Beverly, Mr. DiRubio was the youngest of ten children. A star athlete, he played both football and baseball at Beverly High School. He served five years in the NAVY during World War II in the South Pacific. After his discharge, he continued his education at the University of New Hampshire, earning his bachelor and master degrees. Mr. DiRubio was inducted into the UNH Hall of Fame. He played on the UNH Football Team, the Wildcats; the 1949 team was invited to play in the Glass Bowl.

Mr. DiRubio was a teacher, coach, and athletic director at Taunton High School for 40 years. He was the original manager of the Edgewood Swim and Tennis Club in Raynham. He enjoyed mountain climbing, skiing, camping, tennis, dancing, and Sinatra. He and his wife loved traveling.
