STUDENTS NEED 140 CREDITS TO GRADUATE FROM TAUNTON HIGH SCHOOL

 

In addition to local graduation requirements, students must score a 220 on the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) Tests in English and mathematics in order to earn a diploma from Taunton High School.  In addition, the Class of 2010 will be required to pass an MCAS test in biology or chemistry depending on the science course in which students are enrolled during their sophomore year.

 

To remain in the Class of 2007 students must earn 100 credits by the end of junior year.

To remain in the Class of 2008 students must earn 60 credits by the end of sophomore year.

To remain in the Class of 2009 students must earn 30 credits by the end of freshman year.

 

COURSE SELECTION GUIDELINES

 

Students in the Class of 2009

1.         Must select a course that fulfills graduation requirements in the English, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science departments.

2.         Must select Health/Physical Education.

3.         May select a course in the Foreign Language Department.

4.         Students who earned Warning scores on middle school MCAS tests and/or scored below grade level on Grade 9 Stanford Nine tests must take Composition and/or Math Connections.

5.         May select up to 2 electives from among the following departments Business Technology, Family & Consumer Science, Industrial Technology, Visual Arts, or Performing Arts.

 

Students in the Class of 2010

1.         Must select a course that fulfills graduation requirements in the English, Mathematics, Social Studies and Science departments.

2.         May select 1 elective from among the following departments Business Technology, Family-Consumer Science, Industrial Technology, Visual Arts, or Performing Arts.

3.         May select a course in the Foreign Language Department.

4.         Will take one or both of the following: Composition, Math Connections.

 

Upperclassmen will not schedule more than one required course in each academic discipline unless required to do so in order to graduate in the Class of 2007.
