609     Introduction to Technology                            2.5 Credits

Students will study a variety of topics included in the Science & Technology curriculum frameworks.  Students will research technology as well as engage in a series of learning activities and projects utilizing problem solving skills.

 

610      Wood Manufacturing I                                 5 Credits

Students will be introduced to power tools in the construction of wooden furniture and accessories.  Math and scientific concepts related to shop work will be stressed. The basic materials and their properties will be introduced.  Students will fill out a bill for materials and calculate their costs.  They will explore possible careers in manufacturing.  Students must pay for materials used.

 

624      Wood Manufacturing II                                5 Credits

Prerequisite:  C or better in Wood Manufacturing I

Students will plan, design and manufacture wood furniture.  A greater emphasis will be placed on power equipment (portable and stationary) and their proper use.  Shop safety will be emphasized at all times.  Project layout and cost will be studied.  Students must pay for materials used.

 

634      Wood Manufacturing III                                5 Credits

Prerequisite:  C or better in Wood Manufacturing II

This course will expand on principles and techniques learned in previous levels.  Cabinet making techniques involving more sophisticated joinery will be stressed.  Elements of furniture design will be introduced. Students will be involved in the design or customizing of their furniture project.  Students must pay for materials used.

644      Wood Manufacturing IV                                5 Credits

Prerequisite:  C or better in Wood Manufacturing III

This course stresses design, construction, and finish of more complex pieces of furniture.  In addition to safe use of power tools, proper set up and maintenance will be taught.  Students must pay for materials used.

 

631     Construction Technology I                             5 Credits

Prerequisite:  Two semesters of Wood Manufacturing and/or CAD

This class introduces students to the various phases of residential construction.  Activities will include school construction projects, a line production project, and the construction of a scaled building. 

 

641    Construction Technology II                           5 Credits

Prerequisite:  C or better in Construction Technology I

Students enrolled in this course will be introduced to all phases of home building construction.  They will participate in school construction projects.  Students who successfully complete this course will have a working knowledge of building construction to prepare them for the world of work or further education in the field of construction. 

 

612    Graphic Communications                             5 Credits

Students will explore modern technology and techniques in graphic design.  The student will study and utilize Adobe Photoshop, Adobe in Design, Adobe Illustrator, and Macromedia Flash software programs in developing and creating graphic design products.  In addition, students will be introduced to the offset lithography process.  A $6.00 lab fee is required.

 

626   Graphic Communications II                            5 Credits

Prerequisite:  C or better in Graphic Communications I

This course will acquaint the student with rendering, digital photographs using Adobe software, Photoshop software, two color silk-screening, darkroom procedures, and production offset printing.  A $6.00 lab fee is required.

 

636   Graphic Communications III                          5 Credits

Prerequisite:  C  or better in Graphic Communications II

This course introduces students to black and white photography, digital video, as they publish the Tauntonian, the school newspaper, and other production printing jobs. A $6.00 lab fee is required.

 

646  Graphic Communications IV                          5 Credits

Prerequisite:  C  or better in Graphic Communications III

 

Graphic Arts IV will reinforce skills that are covered in previous years.  Photo silk-screening and animation software will be introduced.  Also the class will be involved with the production of the school newspaper and the high school literary magazine.  A $6.00 lab fee is required.

 

618  Transportation Technology I                        5 Credits

This course will concentrate on two and four cycle gasoline engines.  Students will deal with engine operation, troubleshooting and repair.  Emphasis is placed on related scientific principles.

 

628 Transportation Technology II                      5 Credits

Prerequisite:  Transportation Technology I

This course will acquaint students with the various components of the automobile engine.  Activities will include disassembly and rebuilding of starters, carburetors and alternators as well as routine jobs such as tire changing, charging batteries and bolt threading. Students explore scientific principles of engine systems and energy forms.

638 Transportation Technology III                     5 Credits

Prerequisite:  Transportation Technology II

Students will study all parts of the automobile engine.  Students will work on stand mounted engines in the shop becoming familiar with installation, repair and replacement of all engine parts.  They will study the theory of operation of each of the automobile systems.

648  Transportation Technology IV                     5 Credits

Prerequisite:  Transportation Technology III

This course expands upon information covered in Transportation Technology III.


Students may elect to take the Computer Aided Drafting courses for honors credit.  The instructor and the student make that determination at the close of the semester. 

 

637      Computer Aided Drafting I                         5 Credits

Prerequisite:  C or better in Algebra I and/or permission of the mathematics supervisor

This course is designed to give students a basic understanding of computer drafting skills used in a drafting career or as a tool for designers, architects, and engineers.

647      Computer Aided Drafting II                        5 Credits

Prerequisite:  Computer Aided Drafting I

This course deals with the AutoCAD program in a more detailed manner while focusing on the area of architecture.  Students prepare detailed floor plans, structural cross sections, and elevations.

657      Computer Aided Drafting III                        5 Credits

Prerequisite:  Computer Aided Drafting II

Students will use AutoCAD's Architectural Desktop program to prepare three dimensional computer models of residential buildings.  Also, the Mechanical Desktop program will be used to create three dimensional machine drawings.  The 3D Max program will be used to create computer models and animation.

667      Computer Aided Drafting IV                        5 Credits

Prerequisite:  Computer Aided Drafting III

Students will be continuing the study of 3D Max animation software.  Students will apply their acquired skills to design community-based projects.  Also, several internships are available in architectural or engineering settings.

 

677      Computer Aided Drafting V                        5 Credits

Prerequisite:  Computer Aided Drafting IV

This course provides advanced students with the opportunity to complete an independent study project under the direction of the instructor
