Two AP English Teachers Receive Partners In Excellence Award

TAUNTON - Superintendent John J. Cabral and Taunton High School Principal Scott Holcomb are pleased to announce that AP English Literature teachers Colleen Connors and Debra Logan have received the Partners in Excellence Award from Mass Insight Education and Research (Mass Insight).

The annual awards honor educators who make significant impacts in increasing academic opportunities for underserved students as measured by their students’ success, according to Mass Insight.

“It gives me great pride to see both Colleen and Debra recognized for their tireless dedication to their students,” said Superintendent Cabral. “It’s also gratifying to see them recognized for their work helping traditionally underserved and underrepresented students achieve AP success.”

“As any educator knows, we pour a lot of ourselves into our students, often without much knowledge of our impact.  Being recognized in this way is extremely humbling and even a little bit validating,” said Logan. “Colleen and I work really well together and always collaborate so being able to share this recognition with her was special.“

“This award is a reminder that teachers’ work in the classroom, regardless of the course or grade level, does matter,” said Connors. “Mass Insight has spent over twenty-five years in the pursuit of educational equity at all educational levels and in multiple states. These people know what they are doing, and their nomination of me for this award reaffirms to me that not only do I know what I’m doing, but that I am excellent at what I do.”

Connors and Logan were two of 15 recipients selected from more than 600 AP teachers in the state participating in Mass Insight’s AP STEM & English program, which advocates equity in AP education.

Mass Insight’s AP Team of content directors nominates teachers based on program participation and implementation, increasing enrollment and encouraging students to participate in extended learning opportunities to improve AP outcomes.

Connors and Logan were honored at the Partners in Excellence celebration on April 2 at Bentley University in Waltham.
