Meetings and Subcommittees

The Taunton Public Schools School Committee meets on the first and second Wednesdays of each month.

Regular meetings begin at 6:00 p.m. in the library at Elizabeth Pole Elementary School, 215 Harris Street, Taunton, MA, unless otherwise posted.

The Finance and Law Subcommittee meets at 5:45 p.m. before each regular School Committee meeting. Other subcommittees meet as needed. All meetings are posted on the calendar below.

Meeting schedules may change during school vacation weeks.

Subcommittees

Subcommittees allow the School Committee to take a closer look at specific areas of work. Each subcommittee includes a chairperson and two members. Subcommittees report back to the full School Committee to inform discussion and decision-making.

  • The Athletics Subcommittee focuses on school athletics and physical education at all grade levels. The group reviews topics, discusses needs, and shares updates and recommendations with the full School Committee.

  • The Chapter 74 Subcommittee focuses on Career Vocational Technical Education (CVTE) programs at Taunton High School. This includes programs approved under Chapter 74, the Massachusetts law that governs vocational education. The group reviews program updates and shares recommendations with the full School Committee.

  • The Community and Family Outreach Subcommittee focuses on building strong relationships with caregivers and the community. The group discusses outreach and engagement and reports back to the full School Committee.

  • The Curriculum and Instruction Subcommittee looks at the district’s academic programs, both current and proposed. Members review new ideas, consider pilot programs, and bring updates and recommendations to the full School Committee.

  • The Elementary School Subcommittee focuses on programs, operations, and student experience across the district’s elementary schools. The group reviews topics such as academics, student supports, and school initiatives, and shares updates and recommendations with the full School Committee.

  • The Finance and Law Subcommittee reviews financial matters, policies, and related items that come before the School Committee. This includes expenditures, contracts, and other financial considerations. The group shares updates and recommendations with the full School Committee.

  • The High School Subcommittee focuses on programs, operations, and student experience at Taunton High School. The group reviews key topics and shares updates and recommendations with the full School Committee.

  • The Long Range Planning and Public Properties Subcommittee focuses on school facilities and long-term planning. The group reviews the condition of school buildings, considers repairs and improvements, and shares updates and recommendations with the full School Committee.

  • The Rules Subcommittee reviews proposed changes to School Committee policies and procedures. The group considers updates, revisions, and new rules, and shares recommendations with the full School Committee.

  • The Space Utilization Subcommittee looks at how the district uses space within its buildings. Members review current use, consider future needs, and identify ways to make the best use of available space. The group shares updates and recommendations with the full School Committee.

  • The Special Programs and Projects Subcommittee reviews programs and initiatives that do not fall under the scope of other subcommittees. The group considers new ideas and ongoing efforts and shares updates and recommendations with the full School Committee.

Bargaining Subcommittees

Bargaining Subcommittees are responsible for negotiating contracts with employee unions. These negotiations take place on a regular contract cycle. Members review proposals, work toward agreements, and report back to the full School Committee.

  • The Cafeteria Bargaining Subcommittee negotiates contracts with the Laborers’ International Union of North America, AFL-CIO Public Employees Local 1144 (LiUNA 1144), which represents cafeteria workers in Taunton Public Schools.

  • The Custodians Bargaining Subcommittee negotiates contracts with the Laborers’ International Union of North America, AFL-CIO Public Employees Local 1144 (LiUNA 1144), which represents custodial staff in Taunton Public Schools.

  • The MNA Bargaining Subcommittee handles contract negotiations with the Massachusetts Nurses Association (MNA), which represents school nurses in Taunton Public Schools.

  • The TAA Bargaining Subcommittee negotiates contracts with the Taunton Administrators' Association (TAA), which represents a range of administrative and specialized roles within the district.

  • The TEA Bargaining Subcommittee negotiates contracts with the Taunton Education Association (TEA), representing teachers, counselors, and other specialized instructional and student support staff.

  • The TESAA Bargaining Subcommittee negotiates contracts with the Taunton Educational Secretaries and Assistants Association (TESAA), representing paraprofessionals, secretaries, security staff, and other support roles across the district.

  • The TTAA Bargaining Subcommittee negotiates contracts with the Taunton Therapy Assistants Association (TTAA), representing staff who support student therapy and related services across the district.
