How to Apply for School Choice
School Choice allows caregivers who live outside of Taunton to apply for their student to attend Taunton Public Schools.
Applications are reviewed based on school enrollment capacity and available space.

School Choice is for students who live outside of Taunton. Taunton residents requesting a different in-district school placement should visit the Hardship Placement page.

Caregivers who live outside of Taunton may apply for School Choice.
Once accepted through School Choice, students may continue attending Taunton Public Schools through graduation, as long as the caregiver wishes for the student to remain enrolled.
Elementary school students will either transition to the corresponding middle school or be assigned a middle school by the Office of Student Services and Transportation. Caregivers may also request a specific middle school placement.

School Choice applications are completed through SchoolMint, the Taunton Public Schools registration platform.
As part of the application process, caregivers:
- Complete standard student registration information
- Select the school they would like their student to attend
- May rank multiple school choices
A separate application must be submitted for each student. Applications for siblings will automatically be linked within the SchoolMint system.
Applications may be submitted at any time during the year.
*Current Taunton Public Schools students who move out of the district and wish to remain enrolled through School Choice should contact Student Services for assistance.

The Taunton School Committee votes annually on whether Taunton Public Schools will participate in School Choice.

For applications submitted during the summer, decision letters are mailed through the United States Postal Service (USPS) at the end of July.
Applications submitted during the school year are typically reviewed within two weeks of submission, and decision letters are mailed to caregivers through the United States Postal Service (USPS).

Transportation is not provided for School Choice students. Caregivers are responsible for providing transportation to and from school.
